Word Of Mouth Marketing
As a direct marketer I like everyone else is trying to find new and innovative ways everyday to acquire and retain customers. I keep hearing "Word-Of-Mouth" marketing is the best way to do this. Is it though? Will "word-of-mouth" really keep your business alive? Is it generation specific? Does it work for the gen Y'ers and X'ers alike? And what about companies whose main customer base is senior citizens? How much emphasis do individuals put on what they hear from their friends? Is it more important that your friends and family members like a brand or is it quality and price that really matters?

IMO a recommendation is a great thing no matter who the age group or demographic. If you are evaluating options, if someone said "yes i tried that and really liked it" you would give it a bit heavier weight - or atleast consider it longer than some of your other options.
Branding is important, a good brand makes for great WOM.
Well, if you like Senior Citizens and you like WOM, then you would LOVE my dad. He is the A#1 WOM guy -- using it if one of his friends like it and loving to share his "new finds" with his friends!
I have to say that with the older generation, I would not be at all surprised if that was THE most important marketing tactic to use.
Jaime,
How about starting with linking to the WOMMA (Word of Mouth Marketing Association) at http://www.womma.org/ or even joining to become a champion of Word of Mouth! -- Prof. Cheryl Fabrizi
Question:
Which is more powerful...
Negative WOM or Positive WOM?
